The multi-level terrace home had become endowed with a more recent extension to the rear, which sat ill-fitting to both the original form and its delicate detailing. Optimising the potential of the site while constrained by strict heritage overlays, architectural practise Retallack Thompson were engaged to reactivate the floor plan and transform the two-bedroom home into a more fitting three-bedroom residence for its young family.

The challenge of this build involved transforming the restrictive blueprint of this dark and claustrophobic 1950’s harbourside apartment block into a modern light open-plan layout for a young growing family. Hancock Homes transformed the original 1 bath 3 bed unit by adding a second bathroom / ensuite into the site of the original walk in robe, a separate laundry, and a new seamless flow of space that brought in the water harbour views throughout the apartment.
Having already completed one unit in this heritage listed building in the heart of Sydney CBD the year before for a different client– Hancock Homes were engaged by a second client within the block who were so impressed with what had been achieved in the neighbouring unit they wanted a similar look and feel to their own project…
